12,000 RTI appeals pending in Gujarat: Activist

Ahmedabad, Aug 8 (IANS) Over 12,000 right to information (RTI) appeals are pending in Gujarat which does not even have a chief information commissioner (CIC), transparency law activist Vinod Pandya said here Monday.

“The situation is grave and needs to be addressed and so those active in the field have decided to form a state-level association of RTI activists,” he added.

Pandya said that a meeting of RTIactivists from all over the state took a decision to submit a memorandum to Governor Kamla Beniwal and Chief Minister Narendra Modi, seeking immediate action in the matter.

“In view of the frequent attack on RTI activists and the pending issues, it has become necessary to band together,” said Bharatsinh Jhala, another activist.
