New Delhi, The Delhi High Court Thursday dismissed a petition seeking to declare the central government’s act of introducing the Lokpal bill last month as unconstitutional on grounds that parliamentary procedures were not followed.
Dismissing the public interest litigation, a division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna said: “In our considered opinion, the writ petition has been preferred without any legal foundation and hence it cannot be made a subject matter under article 226.”
“We decline to entertain the writ petition and dismiss the same,” said Chief Justice Misra.

Delhi lawyers support Hazare
New Delhi, Aug 17 Lawyers here organised a demonstration near the Delhi High Court Wednesday, marching to India Gate to support activist Anna Hazare’s call for a stronger Lokpal bill.
Around a hundred lawyers assembled outside the premises of the high court under the banner of the Adhivakta Parishad Delhi Pradesh (APDP), a lawyers’ wing.
“Jan Lokpal proposed by the civil society is an effective instrument, weapon and machinery to curb the corruption in the democratic society with strict hand,” said the APDP in a statement.

Anna’s protest affects Orissa courts, schools
Bhubaneswar, Aug 17 Lawyers boycotted courts and students skipped classes in many towns across Orissa Wednesday to support activist Anna Hazare’s fight against corruption.
Work at various courts across the state, including the Orissa High Court at Cuttack, 26 km from here, was paralysed as lawyers marched wearing black badges and covering part of their faces with black ribbons.
“Anna’s arrest was undemocratic,” Lalatendu Samontray, secretary of the Orissa High Court Bar Association, the state’s apex association of lawyers, told reporters.

Lawyers plan strike Wednesday on Hazare’s arrest
New Delhi, Proceedings in Delhi courts are likely to be hit with lawyers in all the six district court complexes deciding to strike work Wednesday to protest the arrest of anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare, an advocate said.
“We will hold a complete strike in all the local courts to support Anna’s cause and also to oppose the prime minister’s statement that the judiciary should not come under the Lokpal,” said Rajiv Khosla, spokesperson of Co-ordination Committee of all Bar Association of Delhi.

Judiciary should not be under Lokpal: PM
New Delhi, It is not right to bring the judiciary under the ambit of Lokpal as this would go against the independence of the judiciary, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Monday.
Addressing the nation on the 65th Independence Day, he admitted that we do need a framework in which the judiciary becomes more accountable.
“It is not appropriate to bring the judiciary under the ambit of Lokpal. We believe that any such provision would go against the independence of the judiciary.

New Delhi, Terming the government’s allegations of corruption against him as “baseless and false”, social activist Anna Hazare Sunday dared it to start a probe against him and said he will continue his fast until the charges are proved wrong.
“The government has made false allegations against me. The government so far had targeted all members of the civil society, including Shanti and Prashant Bhushan, Justice Santosh Hegde and Arvind Kejriwal, but me. Today they have targeted me,” Hazare told reporters here.

Government behind curbs on Anna’s fast, says Kiran Bedi
New Delhi, Anti-corruption campaigner Anna Hazare has accepted 20 out of the 22 terms set by Delhi Police for allowing his fast here from Aug 16, said his team member Kiran Bedi Saturday, blaming the government for the curbs.
Hazare will sit on indefinite hunger strike against the government Lokpal bill.
Responding to Delhi Police’s 22 restrictions for the fast, Bedi said: “This is not a Delhi Police draft.”

NRIs to join Anna’s fast
New Delhi, Aug 13 A group of 25 non-resident Indians (NRIs) from the Middle East will join Anna Hazare’s fast here from Aug 16 to demand the enactment of a strong Lokpal bill, a statement said Saturday.
“We Indians abroad fully back Anna and his team in introducing a strong Lokpal bill. Everybody cannot join the fast, so a group of 25 will carry with us the goodwill, emotional support, and spirit of patriotism of all NRIs as we believe that only an effective Lokpal bill will lead India in the right direction,” K.K. Sarachandra Bose, an advocate who will lead the delegation of lawyers and activists, said in a statement.

Mumbai, Aug 9 (IANS) Social activist Anna Hazare Tuesday flagged off a rally here of 2,000 participants in 500 cars and on bikes in his ongoing struggle for a nationwide mechanism against corruption.
Mumbai’s famous dabbawalas and hundreds of college students joined in the 10-km rally between Dadar in central Mumbai and Azad Maidan to the south.
