Supreme Court Bar Association suspends Anand, Khan

New Delhi, June 4 (IANS) The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Monday suspended senior advocates R.K. Anand and I.U. Khan, days after a sting operation by NDTV showed them purportedly colluding to influence a witness in the sensational BMW hit-and-run trial.

The two advocates have been issued show-cause notices as to why action should not be taken against them, SCBA president P.H. Parekh said.

The decision to suspend the two advocates and to seek their response on the incident was taken at a SCBA's executive meeting, he said.

A three-member committee has been formed to go into the issue and it will submit its report within four weeks, he said.

The committee includes Parekh, senior advocate V. Shekhar and advocate Vikrant Yadav.

Anand, who is defending main accused Sanjeev Nanda, grandson of former navy chief S.M. Nanda, and now dropped special public prosecutor Khan, were shown joining hands to influence key witness Sunil Kulkarni in the TV channel's sting operation telecast Wednesday.

The Bar Council of Delhi had Saturday also issued show-cause notices to the two criminal lawyers asking them to respond by July 20.
